You can specify that you DO NOT want your Doctors to prolong your life when there is no hope that you will ever recover.
NB The case we are considering now is when your Doctors have concluded that you have a terminal condition that cannot be cured,
and you will not be able to communicate your wishes,
and that your life would end naturally if it weren't for the machines and tubes keeping you alive.
This option will aslo indicate that you want maximum pain relief, even if it means that it will shorten your life.
It is important to remember that in almost every situation your Doctors will not need to be prompted to prolong your life - that's their job.
People who choose this option generally do so because they do not want to drag out the inevitable for thier loved ones, or because of issues of personal dignity.
