The Kidneys

Your kidneys, sit at the back of your torso near the bottom of the rib cage. They are responsible for regulating your body's fluid and salt levels. The kidneys balance the amount of fluid in your body by diverting what you drink either into the blood stream or the bladder. You can survive with only one Kidney, but if neither kidney is working, you will need to go onto a dialysis machine or have a kidney transplant.

There are around 360 kidney transplants performed each year across Australia.
The one year survival rate is about 90%.
